Much Needed Makeover

For my BLOG that is!  Although, I could probably use one as well!!  ;]  I hope you all enjoy the new layout, color scheme, background, etc.  I figured that it was time to change the old thing since we are no longer even living in New York anymore.  The blog was all dark and chic like New York (especially in the winter time when it would be pitch black at 4 pm!!!!), and, well, Florida just isn't like that.  It is bright and beachy.  Am I building these assumptions off of stereotypes?  Yes!  Do I care?  No!  It is my blog!  And dang it!  I will make it stereotype-y if I wanna!!!!

We interrupt this whine to bring you more "non-annoying" sentences.

So anywho!  I hope you enjoy the new... everything!  I am not going to put everyone through the drama of switching URLs yet again... that was a hot mess last time.  If you have any constructive criticism or lovin' for the new blog design, speak now in the comments section below, or forever hold your peas.
"We want to snuggle!"
All right, ladies and gentlemen!  Hope to see some comments- lovin' or not-so-lovin'!  Thanks!  =]

What's Up, Buttercup?

Hey everyone!  Just thought I would write a quick blog post updating my life.  WARNING: This is a touch "braggy momma" at certain points- proceed with caution at your own risk of wanting to puke!  Aaaand list:

1. I have joined the iPhone club at last!!!  Took me long enough!  It is helping me update friends and family with more photos and videos, etc.  I think everyone is enjoying it.  If you aren't, hide me because I ain't stoppin'!  ;]

2. I have gained some weight back, but still feel and look fairly good!  I am TRYING to get back on track.

3. I have discovered Nutella... and once you discover it, you cannot go back.  This goes hand in hand with point #2.  Issuesss. =[

4. I am probably going to blog about daily progress and such to keep focused and accountable.

5. T.J. will be 18 months on July 12th.  Ummm, is it just me, or is my child growing up wayyyy too fast?

6.  My sister is pregnant and due in December!!!  We find out the sex of the baby soon!!!  (Check out her blog: Portugal Ponderings)

7. Travis is still working at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney and doing well!  I am a proud wifey!

8.  We are ancient.  Travis is 25, and I am 24.  Weird to even type it.  I feel like I am still 19!!!  I remember with early 20's used to be "old"...  Travis's birthday was in May, and mine was in June.  If you forgot to wish us happy birthdays, please feel free to comment below (JK!... sort of.).

9. We celebrated our (technically) 3rd Father's and Mother's Days!  =]  2nd where we actually had T.J. in our arms, but hey, a baby's a baby- even if Washington D.C. disagrees!  ;]  Travis got a surprise weekend getaway for the two of us to Disney, and I got a silver necklace that reads, "Mom", on it!  We decided to save money and do joint birthday/parents' days gifts.

10. My brother-in-law, Erik, and his girlfriend, Bri, got engaged!  They are to wed in January!!  Love is in the air!!  (Check out Bri's blog: The Diva and the Divine)

11. My sister-in-law went on the trip of a lifetime to Africa!  (Please visit her blog about her adventure: My African Adventure)

12. T.J. has been learning SO much!  He has known his ABC's since a little before 17 months, and today I realized that he almost can recite them by himself in order!  He plays his matching game, and we are working on counting.  He also plays make believe and a version of hide-and-seek that we call "Find the Turtle".  He talks up a storm and throws tantrums in true toddler style!  I am so proud of him.  He is our world- a blessing from God!  (Please visit his blog... just kidding.)

13.  T.J. got his helmet off!  There was definite improvement though it isn't perfect.  However, the doctor just didn't think it would do much more good (which drove her crazy because she is just as much a perfectionist as I am), so we are free of that helmet at last!  Praise the Lord!

14.  I am officially on Pretty Little Liars book #10!  Obsessed?  Just a little.

15.  With an iPhone comes great iRespo

nsibilites.  One being getting an Instagram (I can hear the groans now!).  Hey!  At least I still don't have a Twitter account (No offense, Twitter-lovers... your followers still love hearing about how you ate a bagel this morning, no worries.  ...Ooh, I am getting sassier in my old age!  ;] )  Anywho, please follow me on there to get photo updates and such: brittanyenge.  =]

~* Well, that's all folks!  Please comment below to update me on your life!  I love comments- I love hearing from readers.  I read each of them, and I usually try to respond.  Let me know what's up with you and your family!  Thanks!  Xoxo! *~

Enjoying Now

Enjoying Now

 Mysterious stains, scattered toys,
Quiet nap time, play time noise,
Is that a booger, or leftover food,
Where is his diaper, why is he nude?
Using my finger to wipe nose goop,
What is that smell?  Could it be poop?
Bruises, scratches, bumps!  Ouch!
Snuggling together on the couch,
Giggling, laughing, whining, crying,
Successful feeding?  Or food flying?
His fingers sticking up the nose,
Do I mean mine or his?  Who knows?
This is my life as a mother,
I would never choose another,
These things I wish would always last,
But I cannot stop him... he is growing fast.

Food, Inc. Review

For those of you who know me, you know I am a hardcore, solid Conservative.  Republican through and through- woohoooo!  Thus, you may be expecting me to negatively review Food, Inc., a documentary on how our food is made and processed.  Why?  Because usually conservatives are seen as being pro-big business, anti-green, smog-creating, red meat-eating barbarians to liberals (even though WE usually aren't the ones advocating killing unborn babies... but I digress....).  Anywho, the truth of the matter is... I loved it!  Well, I guess if "loved" is defined as being revolted and inspired by the ugly truth of the process our food goes through to get from the farms to our tables, then yes, I loved it!  ;]

If I haven't run you off with my fantastically political introduction, then congratulations!  You've made it to the actual review portion of this post!  =]  Truthfully, as much as I expected this movie to be uber liberal and borderline ridiculous with pushing the green movement, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the documentary was more politically-balanced than I had expected.  It wasn't anti-Republican or anti-Democrat... it was anti-lies, anti-abuse, anti-GMO, anti-unhealthy, and anti-... well... anti-DISGUSTING!!!  Right after mentioning certain FDA people who were involved with the Bush administration, the documentary mentioned that they were also involved with the Clinton administration.  It doesn't really matter WHO is in charge: when the control is centralized and the emphasis is solely on money, there is an issue.

We as U.S. citizens are being lied to about our food.  These large businesses that have formed lawyer-surrounded, powerful monopolies are trying harder and harder to not have to label our foods with information that matters to us such as genetic modification.  It is scary to think that many consumers feel powerless to change the system... what is even scarier to think about it that most consumers don't care.  Hey, I didn't care as much as I should have until I watched Food, Inc.  Sad, but true.

Abuse.  Usually worrying about how the animals that we eat are treated is seen as a tree-hugging, Pocahontas-re-enacting mentality.  If you are a Bible-believing Christian, then you realize that we, as people, are created in God's image.  Animals are not.  Animals do NOT have souls.  So why do I feel that animals that we are going to consume as food should not be treated terribly?  Because WE have souls.  We.  Have.  Souls.  Animals can feel physical pain, but they may not feel emotionally scarred.  However, I am emotionally scarred by some of the things I witnessed while watching this documentary.  The animals were treated as if they were already dead- allowing cows be crowded into areas where they stand ankle-deep in their own manure, kicking chickens for the fun of it, etc.  I cannot watch those animals being barbarically mistreated and feel okay about it.  Does that mean I am going vegan or vegetarian?  No way, Jose!  I love meat, but I know I can find meat that is made from animals who have been at least treated properly up till their death.  I know that sounds a little ridiculous, but just watch this documentary and you will know exaaaactly what I am saying!

Another reason I don't want the animals treated that way?  Because sitting constantly and heavily in their feces is unsanitary, leads to disease, and also leads to some of that fecal matter getting into our meat... can we say GROSS?!?!  People have died from E. Coli not only in their meat but also in their produce due to the run-off from these farms and factories.  Yum.  Run-off, disease-infested poo... in. your. food.  Bon appetit!  Oh, and by the way, our bodies release hormones when we become stressed, right?  I wonder if we get undesired hormones from stressed out chickens, pigs, and cows... just a thought!  Goodness knows we get enough ADDED hormones and antibiotics in our food thanks to our government... do we need hormones from stressed animals in our meals as well?  Don't take my word for it, of course... I am just mulling it over.  By all means, do your research.

Goodness knows this post has been long-winded enough.  I will end with this by saying that I truly enjoyed the documentary.  It opened my eyes to the reality of the food industry, and it inspired me to make some important changes for my family's diet.  I highly recommend it.  But beware... it is disturbing and will most-likely inspire you as well.  However, where there is a will to eat better, there is a way... you can make a partial change at least!  If you are on board, please watch the film.  You can also check out this companion website: http://www.takepart.com/foodinc

Have any thoughts about the views of Food, Inc., the FDA, or this post that you would like to share?  Watched any other inspirational documentaries you would like to tell others about?  Please use the "Comments" section below to respond to this post!  Hey, you can even just use it to say "Hello!"  ;]  I would love to hear from ya!

Limited Time Upgrade Cup

Hey readers!  Today I was at the mall with my mother-in-law, and we, as usual, stopped by good ol' Starbucks to grab some goodies before shopping!  At the check out, I saw this $1.00 reusable coffee cup.  Since it was so inexpensive, I figured I should get one so I can do my part in helping out the environment.  Now, don't get me wrong... I am in no way (as you very well know) a liberal or an environmentalist.  However, I am a Christian, and I believe that we should do our part in respecting the Lord's wonderful earth that He created for our use.  Well, after buying the cup (Actually, my mother-in-law was sweet and treated me- thanks, Becky!), I was struck with a brilliantly, fabulously awesome idea filled with glorious amazingness- oh yeah... it is THAT good:

"Limited Time Upgrade Cup
This will be a reusable coffee cup much like the ones already offered but with a catch.  There will be only a limited amount sold for a limited time.  If you buy the cup (either a grande or a venti size only), you will forever receive a size upgrade on your drink whenever you use the special, recognizable cup.
For example: order a tall latte, hand the barista your grande cup, and they will ring you for a tall but give you a grande.  Order a grande, hand the barista your venti cup, and they will ring you for a grande but give you a venti-sized latte.
This will show that Starbucks is willing to "put its money where its mouth is", so to speak, by using this method to GREATLY encourage coffee-drinkers to cut down on paper cups.  After all, who is going to forget their coffee cup at home if it gets them a free upgrade?  Not me!"

^ That is the idea I posted on www.Starbucks.com.  Below, I will provide a link for you to go to vote for my idea (that is, if you think it is as wonderful as I think it is- not that I am biased or anything).  I would so appreciate your vote.  I thought about it today and went onto www.Starbucks.com to try to find somewhere to submit my idea (like a "Contact Us" link or something), and I was surprised to see that they actually have a section where people are submitting and voting on people's submitted ideas!  Perfect!  Anywho, check it out!  Let me know what you think in the comments section of this post as well!

Oh yes, and here is the link!

My Idea!
Please and thank you!  =]
